"We are all connected; to each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe, atomically."
-Niel DeGrasse Tyson
"All are needed by each one; nothing is fair or good alone. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
I work at a small Montessori school. We have students from infants to 8th grade.
I am a lead teacher in one of the toddler rooms.
I am very thankful that we have had only a few children in our classroom this week due to so many families being on vacation.
It's given me a chance to plan out some work/activities for the school year.
One of those activities/lessons that will be on the shelf in September when our full class resumes is this human figure with a box of flesh coloured crayons.
I am in the midst of creating a mission statement/manifesto for our classroom.
One of the items on it will be to teach the children that all people are different, all people are the same, and all people are to be celebrated.

Such an important message!
ReplyDeleteI like that Emerson quote - such a good one. And the lesson that you're planning - we all have many things in common and many things that are different, but it is so important to love and respect each other whether we are very much the same or very different. Thanks for joining in at WQ!
ReplyDeleteAs a retired teacher, I am loving this lesson. Thank you for linking up and I hope to see you back again.
