My sweet little granddaughter, Natalie, made an ornament for the charity tree raffle with her playgroup.
There were hundreds of trees and even Santa paid a visit! We stopped at the local pizza shop afterward and ordered chicken fingers and salad to bring home with us.
It was absolutely the sweetest thing to get a chance to be with my grandchildren as they told Santa what they wanted!

I couldn't find my pecan pie recipe on Wednesday morning so I pulled out all the old recipes.
I stumbled across this one for rice pudding that my 94 year old aunt had written back in the 1970's.
It is my nana's recipe and was tucked into my mother's old recipe book which I inherited when she died.
I can't wait to make it.
I know that Thanksgiving is a lot of work and I don't want to sound all 1950s housewife but as I woman I feel so honored and blessed to be able to carry all of those old recipes with me. Every time I make the turnips at Thanksgiving I know that I am carrying my nana and my mother to the table with me.
What an honor to be able to do that.

We were so full after dinner that my daughter and I went for a walk through the woods in her back yard. My husband joined us for part of it and took this picture of us.

My grandchildren call me Hopie and my husband, Hey-Joe. Yesterday after dinner my granddaughter handed me this sealed envelope and said she had made us a Christmas present that we could put under our tree...but don't peek.

I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and my prayers for you are that in the coming year you have so much to be thankful for that your cups overflow.
Remember that it is not our happiness that makes us grateful but our gratefulness that makes us happy.

Happy Thanksgiving from down in Plymouth Co! What a gorgeous week it has been here in MA!!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the blessings you listed and most especially the pics of your grands and of you and hubby eating the meal together. I feel the same way about when it's our turn to cook.....i think my father in law (who passed away June 2024) would be very proud of my hubby and the turkey that he made "almost" the same way his dad used to :) (we don't put the stuffing inside the bird due to our vegan daughter).
I think it's awesome that you got some activity yesterday after the meal...I wish we had (some did) but this morning we will be hiking two different trails in West Bridgewater which we are looking forward to. I need to hike off those calories!
Have a wonderful weekend.
We carry our loved ones with us during all the holidays and get-togethers through the recipes and traditions we share. It keeps our loved ones in our minds and hearts!
ReplyDeleteI love that you have the hand written recipes from your mother and grandmother. So do I! I think it is a special gift to see their handwriting and remember cooking and baking with them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and your family, too. Spending all the special times with your grandchildren is the best! I'm sure that you will be looking forward to finding out what is in that Christmas envelope!
Enjoy your weekend!
How nice that you got your family's recipes. My grandma made us rice pudding. She put a whole cinnamon stick in it while it cooked. She also added Carnation canned milk that made it creamier. She also put raisins in it. That for bringing up this memory for me!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable Christmas picture with Santa. All your grands are so cute. I agree with the Thansgiving dinner. I have all my recipe's even some from when I was in home education in middle school. Fun to see how the writing has changed. Anyway, that I hope my daughter will cherish once I'm gone. I've done Thanksgiving for all the family for 51 years including this year. At least though now my grown kids bring most of the food. Looks like a wonderful Thanksgiving get together. I have a feeling with all that are coming to my house with all the grown kids and addition that this year I may be at the kid's table. lol Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfectly lovely Thanksgiving! I have a couple of recipes from my maternal grandmother who died when I was four, written in her handwriting. I treasure them. I have only vague memories of her, so I love having something physical she touched and made.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to have a Christmas present already, lovingly made by a grandchild.
Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving you had surrounded by family. The little kid's table comment made me smile. Your thoughts on carrying your Mother and Nana to the table with you was very touching. I love that and will think of that when I make recipes my Mom used to make. Cute pic of the kids with Santa.
